Night Train

Riding on the night train.
Last stop Sleepy Town.
Left the northern city.
Time to slow things down.

Go south, they say, for comfort.
The north is cold and harsh.
Leaning out the window,
the breeze is getting warm.

They say it’s rather peaceful.
The pace of life slows down.
We pull into the station
and dawn has come around.

We turn and watch the day train.
It’s leaving, homeward bound.
Glad that we aren’t on it.
We prefer this sleepy town.
